Canine Ancestry

Canis Lupus (Grey Wolf)

When you think of a domestic dog, does their ancestry to the wolf come to mind? If not, it should.

Although the domestic dog as we know it is far removed from the emotional intelligence of one of nature's top predators, they both innately share some of the same characteristics. One of the most important traits is their need for social structure.

Within a wolf pack there is a hierarchy, and this hierarchy is a key component to the survival of the pack. Each wolf within the pack has a certain position; a role they methodically play.

Undoubtedly, the most important position within a pack is the Alpha. It is their leader that the pack looks toward for guidance, just as a dog looks to their human pack leader for guidance.

Are you a pack leader? If not, you need to become one if you want to help your dog reach their full potential, and behave in a manner that is acceptable to both you and society.
